Quality carp fishing on beautiful historic lake

Ladywell Lake

Ladywell Lake covers seven acres. It is fed by a watercourse that runs from Hatfield Forest to the east and drained by an outlet at the western end of the lake that ultimately connects to the River Stort. This ensures a healthy turnover and well oxygenated high quality water in which aquatic life, both plants and fish, thrive.

Despite being located in the South of England and only ten minutes drive from Junction 8 of the M11 the lake feels remote and rural.

The lake is weedy in summer. Depths range from around 10ft at the western end to an average of 4/5ft in the eastern section.

The fish

There are between 90 and 100 carp in the lake, the majority being varied strains of Mirrors. There are probably about 25 Common carp with very few below 30lb in weight. Many original fish remain in the lake, with these high quality beauties supplemented by the addition of some scaly and traditional looking younger Mirror carp.

The average weight of the current stock is now around the 30lb mark. There have been four different fish recorded at over 40lb in weight. The common feature is that the fish are healthy and growing. Please look at the gallery pictures for evidence of this.

The fishing

Ladywell is not easy. The stock has been reduced to ensure that it is a big fish water. It is a lake suitable for experienced anglers. The fish are mobile and can be caught, or not caught, anywhere around the lake.

There are ten well designed and appointed swims. To ensure a premium angling experience no more than five anglers will be on the lake at any time. This means that you will have plenty of space and that you can move swims easily during your session.

The venue is particularly suitable for groups of friends on a lake exclusive basis.

Only anglers who prioritise fish care, value nature and are considerate, respectful, friendly and responsible will be welcome at Ladywell.

Facilities

Ladywell has a comfortable furnished Lodge which can be booked at an additional cost and giving sole access to the Island swim. The Lodge has a wood burner, shower, kitchen area with oven and hob and a toilet.

There are two other toilets on site and a newly built cabin shelter. These are for communal use and incur no additional charge.
